Isla Vista Blackout

We Started The Blackout.

We Started The Blackout.

Last night unexpectedly transitioned from a relaxing rainy day in, into quite the festive first night of what is soon to be a very long and interesting weekend. I'm not usually inclined to go out on days of torrential downpour, so I found myself seeking the coziness and warmth of my apartment for most of the day. Then, things got a little interesting. All of a sudden, the technicolor glow emitted by our living room went dark. All of Isla Vista, blacked out.

Blackout Fireworks

Now, what would be your immediate reaction to a black out? Well, here in Isla Vista, the answer is almost too obvious... bring on the fire. The sounds of fireworks blasting into the air and exploding mere houses down from your own has become somewhat of an unofficial signal for 'it's the weekend'. Rockets in the sky, sparklers on the street, and of course a burning couch on a corner of dp... This is how IV survives a blackout.

We Didn't Start The Fire

We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it

We continued to beat the blackout by getting creative with battery operated led string lights, a lazer, and a little bit of smoke. I was actually kind of disappointed once the power came back on. Blackouts make for interesting methods of compensation. You see things in a completely different light.

What's Up Doc?

I've been quite the stranger to the internet lately, thanks to school and general lack of inspiration, but here's a little update and a promise for more in the future! I've definitely been neglecting my camera as of late, but I'm gonna make more of an effort to lug my baby around and make good use of it.

A few things that have happened since my last post:
1) I turned 20! A landmark in my life thus far. It's a strange feeling leaving the teenage wasteland to tell you the truth. Merely being able to say "I'm Twenty" still gives me a chill every time.
2) I'm taking an art class at UCSB! I figured I'd give it a try and expand my artistic knowledge and skills. It's a street art & digital intermediate class. There are a few projects I've been working on this quarter that are not quite finished, but I'll be sure to post them up on my blog once they're complete!

As a little birthday gift to myself, I recently purchased a mighty fine pair of white Doc Martens with my birthday money! They're pretty gorgeous if I do say myself. They're in desperate need of some breaking in, but I'm sure that won't take too long. I haven't been able to take them off since they arrived in the mail. I've wanted a pair ever since the good old days of Daria (& Jane Lane, of course). Now I can stomp around like nobody's business.
