Isla Vista Blackout

We Started The Blackout.

We Started The Blackout.

Last night unexpectedly transitioned from a relaxing rainy day in, into quite the festive first night of what is soon to be a very long and interesting weekend. I'm not usually inclined to go out on days of torrential downpour, so I found myself seeking the coziness and warmth of my apartment for most of the day. Then, things got a little interesting. All of a sudden, the technicolor glow emitted by our living room went dark. All of Isla Vista, blacked out.

Blackout Fireworks

Now, what would be your immediate reaction to a black out? Well, here in Isla Vista, the answer is almost too obvious... bring on the fire. The sounds of fireworks blasting into the air and exploding mere houses down from your own has become somewhat of an unofficial signal for 'it's the weekend'. Rockets in the sky, sparklers on the street, and of course a burning couch on a corner of dp... This is how IV survives a blackout.

We Didn't Start The Fire

We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it

We continued to beat the blackout by getting creative with battery operated led string lights, a lazer, and a little bit of smoke. I was actually kind of disappointed once the power came back on. Blackouts make for interesting methods of compensation. You see things in a completely different light.
