Welcome To My Life

Welcome To My Life

Welcome To My Life: Isla Vista, the town of countless bicycles & pedestrians, beautiful backyard beaches, the friendliest hobos you'll ever meet (&if not friendly, they've at least got character for miles), year-round sunshine, and absolutely spectacular sunsets. I guess I should also mention, I live here while going to school at UC Santa Barbara. Oh, and of course and most importantly, it's home to the great Sashakins <3

Welcome To My Life: Los Angeles, the city of bumper to bumper traffic, hustlin' and bustlin', and smog. Sounds appealing huh? I'm just playing, there are tons a great things about being lost in the City of Angels... literally, its impossible to find my way these days. Though I've only been back for a few days, I'm excited for the delicious food, awesome museums, and endless shopping that LA has to offer! My last trip home included a trip to Venice Beach. Naturally, I was drawn there because it reminds me of Isla Vista in so many ways: the bohemian atmosphere, the beach, the palm trees, and the hobos of course ;)

Passion Pit!

Michael Angelakos + Chunk of Change

Any Passion Pit fans out there? I sure know I am! Though I must admit, I don't think my admiration for them can compare to that of my friend Jason. He is quite possibly their biggest fan! So much so, that he commissioned me to to paint a portrait of PP front man Michael Angelakos, and of course it was my pleasure to do so! I tried to implement some mixed media accents with white string for the "Chunk of Change" lines and window screen for the collar. How do ya like it?

Jason brought his painting to one of the Passion Pit shows about a week ago and was actually able to meet the members of this awesome band! They signed the portrait I painted, which I am stoked beyond belief about! It was truly an honor that they were able to see my work :) Hopefully it was worthy of their ever-so talented fingertips to touch. Below are pictures taken by Jason, the left of Michael Angelakos himself signing the work depicting his lovely face, and right of each signature gracing the surface of Jason's painting. Too cool for words!

Passion Pit @ The Granada

My bestie Alec and I were able to attend the Santa Barbara Passion Pit show this past Wednesday! It was absolutely spectacular. The Granada turned into, dare I say, a Pit of Passion! ;) The grand venue, the vibes of the crowd, the epic lighting, and of course the fantastic synths and beats that render me unable to stop my whole body from bouncing about, made the whole experience one I won't be able to shake for quite some time. Not that I mind :)

I'd have to say, my top 3 favorite moments would have to be: 1) When Little Secrets came on and you could see the whole room leaping in unison as we collectively chanted "Higher and higher and higher..." with such spirit! 2) When I was so pleasantly surprised to hear the band covering a true classic, Dreams by The Cranberries. 3) &Of course, when, after much anticipation, I was able to rock out to Sleepyhead! A song that no one can resist vibing to, at least in my opinion :)

I picked up this super cool band tee as a souvenir to remind me of what turned into quite the technicolor dance party... the Santa Barbara Passion Pit show! I can't stop dancing to their songs... Anyone down to help me relive the fervor by starting up our own dance party? ;)

Higher & Higher & Higher...

Let this be our little secret
No one needs to know were feeling
Higher and higher and higher
Higher and higher and higher

But I feel alive and I feel it in me
Up and up I keep on climbing
Higher and higher and higher
Higher and higher and higher

Makeshift Shapes & Sprays

Seeing as I'm a bit lacking in fund$ these days, (hello life of a college student...) I decided to get a bit crafty and put together the first series of some makeshift business cards! They were about a penny each :)

I've developed quite the obsession with triangles lately. Three was, is, and always will be my favorite number. It is just such a solid digit. [Fun Fact of the Day: A table with 3 legs is always stable and will never wobble! "But, I digress..." as my 7th grade english teacher would say.] So naturally, triangles would easily become my shape of choice. With that, I designed this geometric-inspired logo, fashioned a stencil, and sprayed away!

I'm hoping to hand these out to any curious folks out there. Maybe even get a little mischievous and sneak them into nooks and crannies around campus... pinned to bulletin boards, between books at the library, in the spokes of a few unsuspecting bicycles... wherever my wandering feet may take me.

Big things are coming your way followers! BTW, thanks to all of you new followers and all those sweet comments you've been leaving. I super appreciate it and hope you guys are enjoying my recent work. :) Now that the Neverland series has come to an end, which I had a fantastic time working on, I'm excited to be introducing some new projects I've been working on! Hope you are all as stoked as I am! >^.^<

A new addition to the iDGAB collection of goodies: iDGABtv! I recently got an internship at SHORTFORM.COM and decided to use it as motivation to explore a field of art I've always been interested in... film! For the meantime, my channel consists of some little videos my parents took of my little brother, who I absolutely adore and consider to be quite the child prodigy :) If you are as addicted to cute as I am, check it out!

Once I've honed my own video editing skills and whatnot, I'll be posting some films of my own. I've got quite a few ideas under my belt, so I'm hoping I'll be able to produce some work that will live up to my imaginative expectations! I'm quite the film amateur but I'm sure it'll be a fun project, despite the ambitious nature of it all. Wish me luck in my endeavors! After all, this blog is for all of you to enjoy <3

Pirate Cove

IMG_01
Through fields, across mountains, and into forests, the Lost Girls took flight to find a haven of their own.
Nothing in this world could contain their spirit to explore.

IMG_02
Though they could have easily been roaming around in circles, with no clear direction in mind, the adventurers felt compelled by the same strange and mystical spirit that led them to Neverland in the first place. They must have been doing something right. So on they continued, following their hearts.

IMG_3539The curious kids marched on with purpose and pep in their step,
wandering through this realm of wonders with an unbound flame of desire.

IMG_3540
"These boots were made for wandering."

IMG_3546
Spotting a clearing in the distance, the eager bunch followed their mystic instincts and journeyed on over.

IMG_3581
Eureka! It was the ultimate pirate's booty, an oasis of endless revelry... Pirate Cove!

Captain Hook and Smee simply could not contain their excitement. Thrilled beyond belief, the pirate pair pranced, skipped, and bounced around with joyful enthusiasm.
IMG_09
The imaginative swashbuckling duo snickered and giggled as they playfully pretended to conquer this buccaneer playground like rambunctious ruffians.

They felt fearless and valiant as they let their imaginations soar... Pirate Cove was a stage where they could put on whimsical plays of all sorts, comedies and tragedies alike.

IMG_3605
Their creative minds were so vivid, it was as though they could hear the explosive sounds of canon balls blasting through the air and envision them flying fiercely across the pink and purple sky.

IMG_3626
Captain Hook, in her rascally nature, flung herself to the floor, as if being struck by one of the many canon balls hurled in their direction. As she lay there, Hook tried hard not to break character with the laughter that was tickling her insides in an attempt to escape.

In the spirit of make-believe, Tiger Lily thought it appropriate that they hold a proper burial for their dear friend and captain. With a little fairy dust, and a whole lot of love, she said a prayer from her indigenous Indian tribe and sprinkled the magical glitter about.

IMG_3617
A dream-like death displayed in the most glamorous way possible... fitting for such a fantastic and fabulous friend.

IMG_08
It was quite a sight to behold. Hook's motionless body appeared to gleam and glisten as if the life within her was still shining through with a luminescence that was as bright as ever. Her youth and vitality shimmered straight through the act. A lack of life and spirit was simply something she could not fake.

Tiger Lily, with her mystical Indian divinity, freed Captain Hook's soul and watched it gently float away... Her spirit ascended into the sky to forever watch over all who resided in Neverland... the faithful bunch that shall remain forever young, in their minds and in their hearts.

The End
"Youth is like diamonds in the sun & diamonds are forever."

Special thanks to all that were involved in this amazing adventure!
It was a day that shall never be forgotten! :)
